What
Come have a free snack! That’s it! You’re welcome to hang out and chat for a little bit too, but no further interaction is required or expected.
Snack options to be determined, but we’ll have a nice mix of healthy and unhealthy, gluten free, vegan friendly, etc.
Who
Transgender, nonbinary, genderfluid, gender questioning, and otherwise gender expansive people who happen to be in Chicago on that day! If you think this might be for you, then congratulations, it’s for you!
Cisgender partners, family, and friends who are tagging along are welcome to have a snack too — we’re not going to turn anyone away. But this isn’t really for them and when we run out of snacks we’ll be done, so, use your best judgment about who you invite along.
When
Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 3:00 PM.
Snacking begins at 3:00 PM and ends at 6:00 PM, or when we run out of food.
Where
Welles Park, at or near the gazebo.
2333 W. Sunnyside Ave.
Chicago, IL 60625
The gazebo is near the center of the park, southwest of the main building.
Why
You’re all just super great, cool, and unbelievably sexy people. You deserve a nice snack!
Okay but what’s this actually about
Really! It’s just a free snack for trans Chicagoans!
You may be aware that March 31 is also International Trans Day of Visibility. Visibility is important! For some of us, the kind of visibility that TDoV inspires was important to our own gender journey.
But visibility can also be vulnerability. And right now it’s just so very exhausting.
So back in 2021 someone named Lilith tweeted that instead of celebrating visibility, we should celebrate Trans Day of Staying In and Having A Nice Snack instead. The concept was popularized by Tuck Woodstock on the podcast Gender Reveal, and has grown into snack events and snack-themed mutual aid projects across the country.

There might be TDoS events that have bigger ambitions elsewhere. Our event is just going to be the simplest, silliest kind of mutual aid. We’re going to have a table in a park with snacks. Come have a snack. That’s it!
How do I get there?
Bus:
- #49, either the Western & Montrose or Western & Sunnyside stops
- #78, Montrose & Oakley stop
- #50, Damen & Montrose stop, then walk west three blocks to the park
- #X49, Western & Leland (Western Brown Line station), then walk three blocks south to the park
Train:
- Western Brown Line station, then walk three blocks south to the park
Bike:
- Sunnyside, Montrose, and Lincoln have bike lanes
- Divvy station in front of Sulzer Regional Library, corner of Sunnyside and Lincoln across the street from the park
Car:
- Free parking available on Leavitt behind Sulzer Regional Library, then walk one block west to the park
- Limited street parking along Sunnyside, Montrose, Lincoln, Western, and nearby neighborhood streets
Do I need to sign up or provide any information at the event?
No. Just come to the park and have a snack.
We’re going to have some other information there too that you might find useful or fun or interesting. But you don’t need to register (snacks are first-come-first-served) and we aren’t collecting anything about you. We’re not taking any pictures to use on social media, we don’t have an email list, none of that. It’s just a table and some snacks. We don’t even know what we’d do with your information. There’s no ulterior motive.
Wait, no, that’s not true. If you hang out to chat for a few minutes we might tell you about our goofy idea for a podcast. But okay, besides that, no hidden agenda.
If you start chatting with someone else getting a snack or one of the people giving away snacks and you really bond with them, please do feel free to share your personal information with that person. That’s totally fine! But there’s no organized data collection happening.
I’m really worried that you’re not thinking this through. Don’t you want me to RSVP?
Ugh, fine! If it makes you feel better, tell us if you’re coming or not and that will help us plan how many snacks to bring. But this is not required and you can get a snack even if you don’t RSVP.
Do you have social media accounts that I should follow?
No, no, you wouldn’t want to do that. We’re just giving snacks to trans people in the park. That’s it. Don’t make this harder than it needs to be.
Can I talk about you on my social media accounts?
Yes! Please feel free to share our event through any channel where you think a bunch of trans Chicagoans might see it! You can use our super simple graphic, or create your own better one.
Can I help other ways? Can I donate money?
I mean, sure? Email us at organizers@transdayofsnackchicago.org and we’ll figure out a way for you to help out.
Is this the official Trans Day of Snack event for Chicago? What about this other one I heard about?
You’re overthinking this. It’s really, truly, just a free snack. ❤️
There’s no “official” anything here, no umbrella organization, just a spontaneous expression of love and support for our community. We happened to buy the “transdayofsnackchicago” domain before anyone else, but that doesn’t make us any more official than any other snack-based events happening around the area.
If you know about other Trans Day of Snack events happening nearby, we wholeheartedly encourage you to go to them too. Have multiple snacks! You’ve earned it!
